As many of you will already know, a few weeks ago the Republic of Vanuatu experienced the worst cyclone in its history with wind gusts in excess of 340km per hour. The loss of life and damage caused to the national infrastructure, homes and property was extreme. International aid has arrived but it will take some time to restore some form of normality.
Sadly Vanuatu Sailing Association lost nearly all of the equipment used for their youth development sailing program. In addition their sponsor has had to withdraw due to their own damage and loss from the cyclone and they can no longer provide the ex-charter Laser sailboats that had been pledged.
This has devastated the future of the VSA development sailing program. Their vision of Vanuatu participating in the Pacific Games, the ISAF Youth Worlds and ultimately the 2020 Olympic Games could now become a mere dream and places their sailors at a great disadvantage.
The Vanuatu Sailing Association is appealing to anyone who may be able to offer support that will allow them to replace their equipment and purchase a supply of ex-charter Lasers. If anyone is able to extend their generosity to sponsor the whole cost of a boat, the boat will always bear their name and can also be branded with their corporate identity if desired.
Large or small contributions may be made directly to OSAF (Oceania Sailing Federation), who will hold these funds in trust on the VSA’s behalf in an audited account. Individual donations may also be made online with a debit or credit card via our GoFundMe page.
