Light wind and big waves marked final day of races at the ISAF Sailing World Cup 2014-2015 first stage in Qingdao, China, on waters of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition.
It was an epic final day battle in the Laser between Tonci Stipanovic CRO (1-1-
6-1-1-3-1-4-16) and Pavlos Kontides CYP (2-2-2-4- 8-1-2-3-20) at ISAF Sailing World Cup Qingdao with the Croatian taking the spoils.
Third place was for Tom Burton AUS, well enough to keep his current World #1 at the ISAF Rankings. The Australian had a tough opening day, finishing down the pack in both races but as the week progressed he worked his way up and sealed bronze on the final day. Tonci Stipanovic is now just 21 points behind Burton at World #3 with Robert Scheidt BRA sandwiched in the middle, eight points off the World #1. Kontides sits at World #4, ten points off the Croatian.
In the Laser Radial, Dongshuang Zhang CHN defended her title ahead of a close knit bunch of racers.
The final day at ISAF Sailing World Cup Qingdao saw a shootout between Zhang, Tatiana Drozdovskaya BLR, Sara Winther NZL and Tina Mihelic CRO for the podium spots. Finally was Mihelic who took silver and Winther taking bronze.
12 Laser Radial and 36 Laser Standard sailors participated of event, not a big thing for any Laser competition, but mostly being an ISAF Sailing World Cup event.
