British sailor Martin Evans GBR wins Neil Pryde UK Laser Nationals today after hard fight for first spot with Jack Wetherell GBR, even one race before the end of tournament. Wetherell was really close to beat Evans today but a first spot for Martin and a BFD for Jack in the 11th race defined competition. Check what happened today on course in their own words.
Martin Evans GBR – “National Champion with a race to spare! Harder day today with an 11th in the first race but came back with a 1,2 to seal the deal. Nice work to Jack Wetherell Sailing who put my heart rate up a couple of times today!”
Jack Wetherell GBR – “Close but no cigar! After beating Martin Evans GBR in the first two races today scoring a 3,1 it was still possible to win the Nationals but it was going to be tough. I went for it at the start getting a hook on Martin and then triggering to get the better start. But he got some space after tacking off and lead all the way round taking the win. Kudos to him nailed the shift under pressure. Unfortunately for me I triggered too early anyway and was scored DSQ for starting too early. I can discard that race so with only one race tomorrow I will finish second overall at this years nationals. Well done Martin for winning and we will she if you can defend next year!”
Well done to you both. Congrats for your great performance and thanks for your sportive spirit.
RYA and British Sailing Team must be certainly proud of you too.
