We’re not obviously talking about technology issues but 4th Gold medal the 8 British sailors registered on next Laser Men’s World Championship in Kingston will be seeking for.
On 34 Laser Worlds played up to date since 1974 Britain’s have won three Gold medals; Lawrence Crispin gave first one to his country in the 8th Laser World Championship held in Halmstad, Sweden, in 1985.
14 years later fabulous sailor Ben Ainslie achieved second one in Melbourne 1999, among other three Bronze medals he won in 1996, 1997 and 2000.
Last Gold medal won by British Sailing Team in Laser Worlds was in Halifax, Canada, in 2009, by great laserist Paul Goodison.
GBR is 4th on medallists rank by country, counting 11 medals in total on Laser World Champs; 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 6 Bronze; just one medal behind United States with 12 medals (4-4-4).
So this is a chance for Michael Beckett, Lorenzo Chiavarini, Martin Evans, Elliot Hanson, Alex Mills Barton, Nick Thompson, Jack Wetherell and Henry Wetherell to achieve a new historic medal on Laser Worlds and improving GBR position on ranks. 4G is waiting for you! 😉
