Laser Worlds 2015 started yesterday in Kingston, Canada, with 10-15 knots and 2 races completed for all three fleets (156 boats) and Laserista.com wanted to review some of first day highlights.
Laser Worlds 2015 first day highlights
Matthew Wearn AUS is leading with 1-1 perfect score. That’s expectable cause he’s Australian and currently also ranked World #2 by ISAF.
Juan Ignacio Maegli GUA is second with 2-1 score. 55 boats race is different than 15 there will be at the Pan American Games next week in Toronto 2015 but certainly shows he’s on great shape for being Gold medal on any of both highest level events.
Philipp Buhl GER, Pavlos Kontides CYP and Nick Thompson GBR are 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively and that’s perfectly reasonable. All three sailors will battle for a podium place within whole championship for sure.
Bruno Fontes BRA (12th) is 6 places ahead of Robert Scheidt (18th) although Laser Legend will be the one for Brazil at Pan American Games.
Current World #1 ISAF Laser sailor Tom Burton AUS (19-4) hadn’t best start and is placed 29th, very close to World #4 Tonci Stipanovic CRO in 32nd position. This is showing how hard are the Laser World events and skilled athletes.
ISAF Sailing World Champion in Santander 2014 was Nicholas Heiner NED so he’s defending Laser World title here in Kingston. Not such a good day for him also on place 40th.
But this is just starting and we’ve six more days of competition ahead so everything can happen. Stay tune and follow the Laser sailing action with us!
