First day of the Laser Radial Youth World Championships in Kingston, Canada. A beautiful day to start world championship racing on Kingston waters, with 8-12 knots of south west breeze and sunny blue skies. 197 competitors under the age of 19 representing 36 nations completed 2 races as scheduled. The male fleet has 142 competitors, and they have been split into 3 flights of blue, red, and yellow. The female division has 53 sailors, all sailing in the same flight.
Laser Radial Youth Worlds – Girls division
In the female division, Mária Érdi HUN leads the fleet, winning both races today. Érdi was followed in race 1 by Dolores Moreira URU, and Carly Broussard USA, in 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the second race Magdalena Kwasna POL finished in 2nd. Overall results after 2 races;

Laser Radial Youth Worlds – Boys division
In the Blue flight local Justin Vittecoq CAN placed 1st in the first race, followed by William Marshall USA, and Francisco Guaragna ARG. The second race, Francesco Piro ITA finished 1st, with Maor Ben Harosh ISR in 2nd and Joseph Hou USA in 3rd. Vittecoq CAN finished 5th in race 2, putting him in 3rd overall.
In the Red Flight, Conor Nicholas AUS lead the first race, followed by Nic Baird USA. Umberto Varbaro ITA placed 1st in race 2, with Alexandre Boite FRA in 2nd and Australia’s Conor Nicholas in 3rd. Nicholas AUS now sits in 1st overall, with Varbaro ITA in 4th overall.
In the Yellow Flight Paolo Giargia ITA won the first race of the day, followed by George Gautrey NZL. Philippe Pasquin CAN placed 1st in the race 2, followed by Roberto Pollara ITA in 2nd, Luis Cabrera Pérez ESP in 3rd and Giargia, Italy, in 4th. Giargia ITA finished the day in 2nd overall.
Racing continues daily until August 20th, with the first signal at 1130. All are looking forward to another great day of racing tomorrow with two races scheduled.
