Brazilian Sailing Cup event finished with two well known sailors on top, adding them as serious candidates for Gold in Rio 2016. Those are Tonci Stipanovic CRO and Evi Van Acker BEL, both Laser winners of third Copa Brasil de Vela in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

61 points in 10 qualifying races and a third place in Medal Race made Croatian Tonci Stipanovic CRO (67 pt) the winner of III Copa Brasil de Vela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Second place was for Australian Matthew Wearn AUS with 78 pt, just 1 point ahead of Brazilian Robert Scheidt BRA in third.
My strategy was defending third place due to score. Finally Silver was closed. I met my goal of winning a medal here. It was really positive.
Fourth place was for current Laser World champion Nick Thompson GBR with 86.
ISAF world ranked #1 Tom Burton AUS was finally in 7th.
5th and 6th places for Jean Baptiste Bernaz FRA and Bruno Fontes BRA respectively.
2015 Olympic Test event champion Francesco Marrai ITA ended 8th this time in Rio, five points ahead of Charlie Buckingham USA in 9th.
Andy Maloney NZL completed Top 10, among 48 sailors.
Copa Brasil de Vela – Laser Women’s final results
Nothing seems to stop Evi Van Acker BEL in his journey to the Olympics, being current ISAF World #1 and now also achieving first spot in Rio in this III Copa Brasil de Vela. 39 points in the first 10 races and a 5th place in Medal Race made her clear champion with 49 units, 12 points ahead of recent Laser Radial World Champion Anne-Marie Rindom DEN in second.
2015 Olympic Test event champion Gintare Scheidt LTU completed podium this time in third at Guanabara’s Bay, just 1 point behind Rindom.
Marit Bouwmeester NED finished fourth, sharing 62 points score with Scheidt, so Laser Radial’s Olympic Games promises to be really tight!
Current Olympic Gold medalist Lijia Xu CHN finished 10th, among 41 athletes.
